We are seeking a creative and forward-thinking scientist with expertise in applied physics to help shape the future of industrial sensing technologies. You will initially contribute to expanding our cutting-edge non-invasive process sensing technologies, collaborating within an interdisciplinary team in our Research Center (ABB Campus Mannheim) and globally across ABB.
Key responsibilities
- You will initiate, lead, and contribute to research projects in collaboration with ABB divisions, product development teams, customers, partners, and academic institutions worldwide.
- You will conduct feasibility studies and develop proofs of concept for emerging sensing technologies, assessing their relevance for current and future ABB products.
- You will design and build prototypes to validate concepts and present findings to internal stakeholders, customers, and at international conferences.
- You will protect intellectual property through patent applications and contribute to scientific publications.
- You will leverage ABB’s global learning ecosystem to continuously develop your tech-nical and interpersonal skills to advance your career.
Qualifications for the role
- You hold a degree in applied physics or a related field, and bring either academic experience (PhD) or industry experience (3 years minimum).
- You enjoy hands-on experimentation and problem-solving, and are open to learning new approaches.
- You feature a broad understanding of mechanical and physical behavior in sensing applications.
- You are experienced in Python for signal processing and sensor data analysis.
- Experience in vibration analysis or related fields is an advantage.
- Hands-on experience with electronics prototyping and basic CAD design is beneficial.
- Experience in process industries or related domains is considered a plus.
- Proficiency in English is required; German language skills are a plus.
